September 14: Gunman At the Bank

I am sitting at a kiosk at the bank working on a computer when I see this guy come up next to me and start brandishing a gun in the air. He starts waving it around recklessly and shouting out threats to all the employees and patrons standing around. I realize then that I am the person closest to this man and that, like every movie you've ever seen, I could jump onto his back and wrestle the gun out of his manaical grip.

It occurs to me as I am mulling my dangerous plan over that stuff probably doesn't always happen like it does in the movies. I might actually get shot if I try to tackle the assailant or three other people might get shot as he is falling to the ground happily pulling the trigger. I decide against it and stay put.

The next thing I know, I am sitting in a small room with everyone else on some benchs lining the wall. The gunman is standing in the middle of the room threatening us yet again that if we try anything, or say anything or move at all then he'll shoot us dead. Being the busybody that he is, a man on the opposite wall as I starts to respond to one of these threats. Before he can complete his sentence, the gunman points the gun at the man's chest and shoots him point blank without a second thought. I stare at the wound start to turn red and realize for the first time that I may not survive this heist.

With that thought still reverberating between my ears, the murderer turns around and looks directly at me with his weapon now pointed right between my nipples and asks, "Do you wanna be next?"

(Luckily for me, that is when I woke up. The funny thing about the whole things was when I woke up, I wasn't thinking how scary that was or how grateful I was to still be alive, I was thinking how long that dream took. In fact, I felt like I had been in it for several hours. The second thought that came to my head was how ashamed I was for not being the hero and tackling the guy in the first place.)
